Love don’t dance here anymore II

A Meditation by Alexander Equilibrium

“My country, right or wrong; if right, to be kept right; and if wrong, to be set right.”

— Senator Carl Schurz, 1871

You forgot the second half.

You kept the flag. You kept the anthem.

But you dropped the responsibility.

When the country is wrong, you defend it anyway.

You excuse injustice. You justify cruelty.

You say: that’s just how it is now.

You call it patriotism.

You treated disagreement as betrayal.

You made minorities the scapegoat.

You weaponized identity.

You turned institutions into stages for performance, not accountability.

You made loyalty to a party more important than loyalty to the truth.

Love doesn’t survive in places built on denial.

And you’ve built a nation on forgetting.

Forgetting what it means to correct yourself.

Forgetting that dissent is not disloyalty.

You had the tools to set things right.

You still do.

But you chose silence when it mattered.

You chose anger when humility was needed.

You chose spectacle over substance.

Schurz understood that love of country means telling it the truth.

Not protecting its ego. Not covering its crimes.

He gave you a blueprint. You ignored it.

So don’t ask where the love went.

You drove it out when you chose to be right instead of choosing to be set right.
