I’m With Stupid
The Ever-Recurring Error of Humanity
Somewhere in the vast expanse, Earth rotates—a small, delicate blue globe, stunning and indifferent. Perfect from space, no borders, wars, or ideologies that crash like tectonic plates. Only churning clouds, vast seas, and a sliver of atmosphere.
And you zoom in. And that illusion is broken.
You’re surrounded—by wars, by economic downturn, by environmental disaster, by a distraction economy that is meant to distract you from the fact that we’re spiraling out. Despite your brilliance, you’re stuck in a cycle that you created. Progress and hubris, discovery and devastation. You create gods, governments, and grand theories of meaning, and you use them as weapons to fight each other with. And you wonder, in surprise, why this is a repeating cycle.
Everywhere you look, the indications are evident—corruption, propaganda, corporate greed, dying ecosystems, decision-making by artificial intelligence that humans won’t take responsibility for. The message is there, scribbled upon the canvas of reality: I’m With Stupid. The joke is, however, that there is no need to gesture toward one specific person. You’ve all had the moniker bestowed upon you.
You revel in technological progress as you sleepwalk towards digital serfdom. You lecture on peace as your war-based economics thrive. You applaud for brains as you pay for fools. And when faced with failure, you wait for the next news headline to wash them away like so much water.
And sure, you’ll pretend you’ve learned. You’ll stage conferences, publish opinion columns, vote in fresh leadership, pass fresh laws. But the cycle will repeat. Because the issue isn’t a single policy, isn’t a single corrupt politician. It’s you. Your character. Your lack of vision beyond the next quarter. Your compulsion for power, control, and the false promise of certainty.
The planet will continue to rotate. The warnings will persist. And in your boundless wisdom, you will continue making the same errors—only with improved technology.
Perhaps you might escape. But your chances may be slim, judging by the past.
