The Ever-Recurring Error of Humanity
Somewhere in the vast expanse, Earth rotates. A small, fragile blue sphere. Visually perfect from afar. From that distance, borders vanish. There are no wars or ideologies. Just oceans, clouds, and a thin membrane of atmosphere.
But zoom in and the illusion disappears.
We are surrounded by conflict, environmental collapse, economic imbalance, and an attention economy designed to keep us from noticing any of it for too long. Despite centuries of advancement, we remain trapped in cycles of our own making. Progress tied to destruction. Invention followed by misuse. We create gods and governments and turn both into weapons.
The signs are everywhere. Corruption and conspiracy theories. Vanishing ecosystems. Algorithmic governance without accountability. And still we persist. The message has long been etched across the surface of our reality: I’m With Stupid. It no longer points outward. Collectively, we are pretty stupid.
We celebrate technological advancement while giving up agency. We speak of peace while fueling war economies. We reward spectacle over substance. And when the system falters, we defer responsibility, waiting for the next news cycle to reset our attention.
We perform change. We organize summits. Publish essays. Vote in replacements. Pass new laws. But the root remains untouched. The problem is not just policy or leadership. It is our inability to think beyond the short term. It is our hunger for power, control, and simplified answers.
The planet will keep turning. The signs will not disappear. And we will keep repeating the same fundamental errors. Only now with better tools.
Perhaps there is a way out. But history does not give us much reason for confidence.
